Very few bands manage to last decades, and for the ones that do, it’s often easy to settle down and get a little too comfortable. But there’s nothing comfortable about Devourer, the explosive new album from Cursive. The iconic Omaha group is known for their intensity, ambition, and execution, and has spent 30 years creating a bold discography that’s defined as much by its cathartic sound as its weighty, challenging lyrical themes. And Devourer is as daring as ever. Full of intense and incisive songs, the album proves exactly why Cursive have been so influential and enduring–and why they remain so vital today.

In the years since their 1995 formation, Cursive developed into one of the most important groups to emerge from the late-’90s/early ‘00s moment when the lines between indie rock and post-hardcore began blurring into something altogether new. Albums like Domestica (2000) and The Ugly Organ (2003) became essential touchstones whose echoes can still be heard in new bands today. The pull of nostalgia can be strong over time, but Cursive’s work has often felt like a rejection of those comfort zones; the band has continually pushed themselves, with frontman Tim Kasher’s artistic restlessness steering them ahead. In fact, for Kasher, whose pointed observations always begin with looking inward first, it was an interrogation of this voracious creativity that planted the seeds of Devourer.

“I am obsessive about consuming the arts,” he explains. “Music, film, literature. I’ve come to recognize that I devour all of these art forms then, in turn, create my own versions of these things and spew them out onto the world. It’s positive; you’re part of an ecosystem. But I quickly recognized that the term, ‘Devourer,’ may also embody something gnarly, sinister.” Devourer delves into that darker space. The characters populating the album have bottomless capacities for consumption, whether its resources, material goods, art, or even each other. Then they are consumed by larger forces, whether it’s humanity, Earth, dreams, time, or life itself. “Maybe a better word for it is imperialism,” Kasher says. “But it’s in many different forms. It’s not just the political. It’s personal imperialism and the imperialism of relationships, the way we imperialize one another, even ourselves.”

Fans have come to expect such heady topics from Cursive, but Devourer sets a new standard. The glibness of the First World toward the problems of others. The eternal struggle to stay on the straight and narrow. The eager acolytes exploited by their leaders. How anxiety can compound with age. How self-expression can warp into self-indulgence. Beginning with “Botch Job,” a propulsive banger shaking with anxiety and regret, the album seldom relents. Songs like “The Avalanche of Our Demise,” “What The Fuck,” “Bloodbather,” “Consumers,” and “The Age of Impotence” hit hard, hooking listeners with the unique blend of deep melody and discordant sounds Cursive does so well. Even as songs like “Up and Away,” “Imposturing,” and “Dead End Days” lean more into a poppier sound–or “Dark Star” and “The Loss” tone down the intensity–the album’s underlying disquiet remains. But as always, Cursive is here to wail, not wallow. As Kasher sings in “Bloodbather,” “Life’s an abscess or apple pie / So shut those demons up / And devour your slice.”

Devourer being filled to the brim thematically and musically is unsurprising considering Kasher wrote an astounding 69 compositions after songwriting began in the fall of 2020. About 20 made it to the practice space, with a curated 13 ending up on the final album. Wrangling it all at Omaha’s ARC Studios was Marc Jacob Hudson, who co-produced the album with the band after running live sound on Cursive’s recent tours. Hudson’s lengthy discography includes working with Against Me!, Thursday, and Fireworks, among others, but the musical touchstones he shares with Cursive sealed the deal. “We just got along well and had this kind of shared music history that I found so comforting,” Kasher says. “We were introduced to music in similar ways and, being the same age, share a musical knowledge. It was just so fun and refreshing.”

Now seven members strong (“We seem to be collecting band members over the years,” Kasher jokes), Cursive had a large musical toolbox to use on Devourer. Beyond the core trio of singer/guitarist Kasher, bassist Matt Maginn, and guitarist/vocalist Ted Stevens, there’s keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Newbery, cellist Megan Siebe, recording/touring drummer Pat Oakes, and founding drummer Clint Schnase (the two trade drumming duties across Devourer, but join forces for a two-pronged percussive force in “Rookie”).

Cursive had self-released their two previous albums on their label, 15 Passenger, and initially planned to release Devourer the same way–but ultimately decided to put out some feelers as well. “We got interest and it made it all feel like, ‘Yeah, we should do this,’” Kasher recalls. The group arrived on Run for Cover Records, who were excited to work with a band who has such a deep discography and storied history; it’s a fitting home for Cursive, with new labelmates like Fiddlehead, Citizen, Teen Suicide, and Self Defense Family that share a same DNA of emotionally and sonically biting music. “It really is the first time that we’ve gone off to another label since we started in 1995, when we signed to Crank! Records,” Kasher says. “So there’s a certain excitement to that. It’s no longer the excitement of, ‘We just got signed! I wonder what’s going to happen with this record?!’ It’s more like we’re doing something different–nothing feels rote.” Maginn adds, “More than most bands, our labels have been part of our history. We did it ourselves for years with 15 Passenger, so it’s a big deal to us to take on and trust new partners.”

While Cursive’s music hasn’t gotten any more comfortable, perhaps its being released into a world that’s at least a little more shaped in their image. Devourer sounds urgent and fresh, the work of a band still experimenting, still hungering to find new creative heights. On album highlight “Consumers,” the protagonist bemoans, “I saw our future and I want to go back.” But Cursive are only moving forward.

EXTC

For almost four decades XTC fans could only dream of witnessing the sensational XTC classic songbook played live. That dream has now become a reality. XTC’s legendary drummer Terry Chambers is back on the road with his band EXTC (named and approved by XTC frontman, Andy Partridge).

Emerging out of the post-punk and new-wave explosion of the late 70s XTC experienced global success touring with the likes of The Police and Talking Heads. The band put their hometown of Swindon UK on the map. They achieved huge success in North America and Japan. Sadly their legions of loyal fans would be left in limbo when in 1982 XTC stopped touring becoming a studio-based entity. Fast forward to 2017 Terry returned to the UK from Australia and reconnected with XTC bandmate Colin Moulding. The two would go on to collaborate on new venture TC&I releasing an EP and live album.

Sadly the project was short-lived with TC&I disbanding in early 2019. By now the flame inside Terry had been reignited. His time with TC&I made him realize he wanted to continue doing what he does best. His love and passion for playing music and performing live gave him the idea for his new project EXTC.

Born in early 2019 EXTC would set out to achieve its goals of performing to audiences who had waited so long to hear the EXTC back catalogue performed live only to be bought to a standstill in 2020 due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Terry was keen to get on the road with EXTC with a tour of the United States scheduled for autumn 2020. Unfortunately this would be postponed due to covid restrictions still in place the tour being rescheduled for the following year.

The band eventually began gigging again in 2021 with sold-out dates around the UK. This would include the Isle of Wight Festival and gigs in Terry Chambers and XTC’s hometown of Swindon. The band would go on to do further successful tours of the United States and Canada with EXTC also heading to Japan in early 2023. EXTC has kept much of the original fan base from XTC’s glory days of the late 70s and early 80s as well as gaining a new following of fans in their own right. Enthusiastic fans have lapped up the chance to see Terry and EXTC perform all those classics live once more. Alongside Terry the EXTC line-up features frontman Steve Hampton (lead vocals & guitar – Joe Jackson, The Vapors and Dead Crow Road) and Terry Lines (bass & vocals – The Rams and Dead Crow Road).

Originally a four-piece EXTC band members have changed frequently over recent years. EXTC announced in November 2022 that they are now moving forward as a three-piece. Terry, Steve and Terry will bring you the full EXTC experience with their mesmerizing and engaging live performances as you relive the heyday of XTC. With new material already in the works EXTC is a band on an upward trajectory. With their popularity gaining momentum and international tour schedules increasing it is clear the sky is the limit for Terry Chambers and EXTC!

Here’s the text with all formatting removed (no bolding, special line breaks, or indentation):

In the middle of July 2023 in a Los Angeles studio, Deep Sea Diver mastermind Jessica Dobson took a guitar solo but somehow felt nothing. Just days earlier, her Seattle band played a series of semi-secret shows for devotees at a hometown bar, de facto rehearsals for cutting a new record. The sets had gone well, but, almost immediately, the sessions didn’t. The songs’ essence seemed muddled, Dobson’s conviction lost somewhere in the 1,000 miles between Southern California and the home studio she shares with partner, drummer, and frequent cowriter Peter Mansen. On that first night in Los Angeles, she broke down, wondering what she was doing there, what her band could do to fix it. For the first time ever, Deep Sea Diver retreated, heading home without an album. Did they need to scrap it all, to begin again with new material? Not at all.

Following a brief break, Dobson found a renewed sense of self, a trust in her vision for her band and songs and her ability to capture them. After that Los Angeles hiccup, longtime collaborator Andy Park asked Dobson how the new stuff was going over an early fall dinner. She admitted she needed help. In that humbling confession, she soon found ways of working that helped her reimagine and reinvigorate Deep Sea Diver and led directly to the power and brilliance of Billboard Heart, Deep Sea Diver’s fourth album and first for Sub Pop. It is a coup, a triumph over self-doubt in which what first felt like failure became an opportunity to find new freedom, belief, and strength. You can hear it in each of these 11 songs, the beating heart that makes everything here feel like a new anthem for finding your own way forward. The cocksure Bad Seeds swagger of “Shovel,” the tender mercies of “Loose Change,” the serpentine machinations of “Let Me Go,” where Dobson tangles with fellow guitar dynamo Madison Cunningham: Billboard Heart immediately puts Deep Sea Diver in the company of St. Vincent, TV on the Radio, and Flock of Dimes, bands that have found newly ornate and magnetic ways to make indie rock by discarding notions of how it must sound or what it must say. Dobson punches through her past here. As she howls during Billboard Heart’s rapturous title track, she is “welcoming the future by letting go of it.” Exactly three years before Dobson’s galvanizing dinner with Park, Deep Sea Diver issued its third album, 2020’s Impossible Weight, via ATO, the colossal indie imprint that has helped My Morning Jacket, Alabama Shakes, and King Gizzard build careers across the last quarter-century. It was a significant step up for a band that had self-released its first two LPs.

The surge of resources resulted in a groundswell of exposure, even a spot on Billboard charts. That success, though, caused Dobson to doubt her impulses, to begin thinking about what an idea’s impact or reception might be as much the strength of the idea itself. During this period of second-guessing, she and Mansen sat near the wide windows of their Seattle living room, with her on piano as he hammered a guitar nearby. “See in the Dark”—a song about coveting your own notions, despite the occasional sense they’re slipping away—emerged in that single sitting, its gothic elegance and pop grandeur proffering a blueprint for what else could come. That moment of domestic creation proved essential for several reasons. Before Impossible Weight, Dobson and Mansen wrote many of Deep Sea Diver’s songs together; this was a return to that bond, which carried over to more than half of Billboard Heart. What’s more, the pair began recording more at home, too. They borrowed microphones and a small clutch of essential gear to capture guitars and vocals in their basement. When talks later began in earnest with Park following the Los Angeles debacle, Dobson began revisiting those earlier recordings, realizing that she had captured so much of that ineffable spark at home, where the atmosphere was of her own design. Mansen and Park helped convince her these weren’t just good enough to use but riveting in their realness. These early versions became templates and blueprints to build upon and frame, plus a way for Dobson to believe again in the material and, most important, herself. And from end to end, the material on Billboard Heart is astonishing. The title track is the one song Deep Sea Diver actually finished in Los Angeles. It’s a radiant and magnificent thing, the billowing synths of member Elliot Jackson and tunneling pedal steel of guest Greg Leisz pushing up an anthem for fearlessly advancing into the future, as best you can.

“Emergency” links hardcore’s famous vim to electroclash’s instant allure, Dobson’s italicized voice racing like a gust of wind. Her brief guitar solo at the end is an all-timer, a few hiccupping notes suddenly moving like a sports car in terrifyingly tight corners. Tender and vulnerable, “Tiny Threads” is a sweeping anthem for anyone trying to hold anything together—life, love, themselves. “If it haunts me, let it haunt me,” Dobson sings softly over a stillness framed only by bass and noise. She lets her guitar careen into feedback, then steadily sculpts it into something tuneful. It’s a lifetime of anxiety and sublimation, crystallized into 10 seconds. Billboard Heart feels that way at large. For a minute there, Dobson let that mix of art and commerce we call the music industry cloud her judgment and interfere with her impulses, a common enough story for anyone whose decades of work suddenly yield success.

She found her way out of that wormhole by embracing newness, whether that meant practicing songwriting as if it were collegiate homework, believing in her skills recording at home, or playing bass herself because the band had blown so much money during those aborted Los Angeles sessions. (N.B. The big but elastic bass lines are a consistent highlight here, so: good choice.) Mostly, she let go of the fear that comes when we think about our jobs, no matter what they are, and remembered that making music is less work than a way of reckoning and playing with the world, of healing and finding other ways forward. Billboard Heart emerged when Dobson trusted her instincts, a personal breakthrough that prompted an artistic one. It is, in turn, the best Deep Sea Diver album yet, a defiant and brilliant exclamation mark at the end of a long period of wandering.

Multiple award-winning, California-based blues and rock sensation Tommy Castro is the guitar slinging, soul-singing leader of the telepathically tight and wildly raucous Tommy Castro & The Painkillers. He’s released 17 previous albums over the course of his four-decade career. Each release features its own individual sound and style, ranging from horn-fueled R&B to piping hot blues and soul to fiery, stripped-down rock ‘n’ roll. With his new album, Closer To The Bone, Castro has returned to his roots, delivering what he calls “a real blues record, the way they would have made them back in the day.” Closer To The Bone is the most unvarnished, straight-ahead blues release of Castro’s career, one that bristles with every ounce of his dynamic energy and raw emotion. On Closer To The Bone(Castro’s 8th Alligator release), Castro and his Painkillers—bassist Randy McDonald, keyboardist Mike Emerson and drummer Bowen Brown—mix new Castro originals (Ain’t Worth The Heartache, Can’t Catch A Break, Crazy Woman Blues) with songs originally performed by many of Castro’s friends and heroes. Artists and their songs include Johnny Nitro (One More Night, on which Castro plays his treasured 1966 black Fender Stratocaster, a guitar once owned by Nitro himself), Magic Slim (Hole In The Wall), Ron Thompson (Freight Train), Mike Duke (Keep Your Dog Inside) and Chris Cain (Woke Up And Smelled The Coffee). Castro additionally chose obscure songs by Wynonie Harris (Bloodshot Eyes), Eddie Taylor (Stroll Out West), Jimmy Nolen (The Way You Do) and Johnny “Guitar” Watson (She Moves Me). According to Castro, “These are not the obvious artists people generally cover, and that was most definitely on purpose.”Closer To The Bone was produced by master guitarist and studio wizard Christoffer “Kid” Andersen (producer of over 100 albums), at his now-famous Greaseland Studio in San Jose, California. Closer To The Bonefinds Castro at the top of his game, bringing his seemingly limitless energy and boundless talent to the studio. Guests on the album include labelmatesAndersen, Rick Estrin, Chris Cain and Billy Branch, along with saxophone player/vocalist Deanna Bogart, keyboard wizard Jim Pugh and, on three songs, the voices of The Sons Of The Soul Revivers. Born in San Jose, California in 1955, Tommy Castro first picked up a guitar at age 10. He fell under the spell of six-string stars like Elvin Bishop, Taj Mahal and Mike Bloomfield. Almost every major rock and soul act, from Ike and Tina Turner to Janis Joplin to Tower Of Power, toured through the area, and Castro was at every show. He saw John Lee Hooker, Albert King, and Buddy Guy and Junior Wells at a local club, JJ’s Blues Bar. Castro often jammed at JJ’s, dreaming of busting out and making a name for himself. He created his own personal sound and style by mixing the blues, R&B and funk music he loved into his own, instantly recognizable brand of uplifting, soul-healing music. As his reputation spread, Tommy played in several Bay Area bands, quickly making a name for himself as a hotter-than-hot live artist bursting at the seams with talent. In 1985, he became lead singer and guitarist for the regionally popular

blues band NiteCry before joined popular Warner Brothers’ artists The Dynatones, gigging all over the country. He formed the first Tommy Castro Band in1992 and has not stopped touring since. In 1995, soon after releasing their first album on Blind Pig Records, The Tommy Castro Band were selected as the house band for three seasons on NBC Television’s Comedy Showcase(airing right after Saturday Night Live). The show brought Tommy in front of millions of viewers every week and cemented his reputation as a not-to-be-missed live performer. After a series of successful releases on the Blind Pig, Telarc and 33rd Street labels, Tommy Castro joined Alligator Records in 2009. His label debut, Hard Believer, launched to massive popular and critical acclaim. 2011 saw the release of the raucous Tommy Castro Presents The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue—Live!. In 2014, Castro & The Painkillers released The Devil You Know, followed by Method To My Madnessin 2015, Stompin’ Groundin 2017, and the irresistible Killin’ It—Livein 2019. With 2021’s A Bluesman Came To Town, Castro told the story of a young musician’s journey through the blues world. AllMusicsaid the album was “a towering achievement.”Castro received his fourth prestigious and coveted Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year in 2023. He’s taken home a total of 10 Blues Music Awards and is among the genre’s most decorated artists. Castro’s relentless road-dog approach—gig after gig, 150 nights a year—continues to earn him loyal, lifelong fans everywhere he plays. The Washington Post says Castro is “phenomenal and funky” with “soulful vocals and inspired blues guitar.” Famed guitarist Joe Bonamassa says, “Tommy has always been top of the heap among blues guitar players. He always puts on a great show.”Tommy Castro & The Painkillers’ deceptively simple approach on Closer To The Bone delivers one thrilling performance after another. Says Castro, “Here, I’m not the contemporary guy, not the rock guy, not the soul guy. This is the deeper blues side of me. I know, with these songs, I am at my most authentic.”

MRG869 Destroyer — Dan’s Boogie

What is a “boogie”? In the common tongue, it’s a dance or an occasion to dance, a song or a shindig, an incitement to move, quickly, whether it’s on the floor or out of town, getting down or lying low. This being a Destroyer album and not the common tongue, the implications of a title like Dan’s Boogie are at once more alluring and dangerous. “A boogie is a hustle, a scam that doesn’t quite work, the moves we make when we’re up against it,” explains Dan Bejar. “I think of spy work, double agents, sleeping with one eye open, an eye on the exits. But I also think of petty street-level victories and losses and improv.”

Dan’s Boogie is a breakthrough album for Destroyer, both in the sense that it makes moves that no Destroyer album to this point has made, and in the sense that, to record it, Bejar had to burst through a series of intentional and unintentional barriers to write the songs. Initially challenging himself to not write songs so the ideas would well up inside of him until they breached containment, the months following the completion of LABYRINTHITIS turned into one year then two, at which point Bejar gave himself a New Year’s resolution to play the piano every day for an hour. That lasted about four days, but the songs Bejar credits as coming from that resolution—“Cataract Time,” “Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World,” “Bologna,” and “Dan’s Boogie” among them—are all-timer Destroyer songs across the vast spectrum Bejar and his collaborators have established for themselves: spectacle-laden pop epics, personal piano ballads, and smouldering works of mood that blur the lines between song and novel and cinema, each brimming with the urgency of a state secret in the mind of a tortured spy.

Lead single “Bologna” is the most radical frame for this energy, as it’s the first time Bejar wrote a song where he imagined himself as a supporting character. Taking lead is Fiver’s Simone Schmidt, whose voice—tough and expressive, piercing through the murk of the scene—is a siren’s call that haunts the album. The gravity of their voice pulls Dan’s Boogie into order around a sense of impending doom, the way a fatale’s promise of the unusual and the ecstatic dooms the principal character of an erotic thriller.

“Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World” is a delicious bit of contradiction, a peppy song that came out of the havoc Bejar was intentionally wreaking on himself—its holiday cheeriness making the angst of its lyrics go down smoothly until the song veers off the road. “We are now entering a new phase,” Bejar intones, introducing layers of guitar and synthesizer that considerably darken the palette as he alternates between singing and speaking. The lyrics and vocals are improvised, invented as Bejar recorded the demo in his garage—a manic stream-of-consciousness and simultaneously exquisite display of his songwriting mastery.

Contradiction informs much of Dan’s Boogie, the fog swirling around Bejar illuminated by the friction between competing truths and tastes, as when his interest in jazzy ballads runs aground on producer and bassist John Collins’ interest in bands like Led Zeppelin and Scritti Politti. When Bejar told Collins that he was thinking of Sammy Davis Jr., the title track bloomed into being, Bejar adopting a Rat Pack swagger with almost delusional glee against a dreamy soundscape of soaring guitars, lush horns, jazz drumming, spaced-out synths, and, perhaps truest to how Bejar sees himself, plinking lounge piano.

In terms of shaping sound, the centerpiece of Dan’s Boogie may be “Cataract Time,” an eight-minute epic that ranks as some of the heaviest lyrics Bejar has ever written, and one of Destroyer’s most musically intricate compositions. Borne aloft on an easygoing groove, Bejar’s lyrics—“a reckoning, a dressing down” as he describes them—are transfigured, their melancholy tasting almost counterintuitively like hope. It’s an intimate song that puts away Destroyer’s usual urban fable milieu in exchange for bracing interiority, but its lilting groove can see a future, one that Bejar and his band are eager to meet.

It is, to use Bejar’s phrase, the kind of song you make when you’re up against it, when it seems as if the world is crashing down upon you. And therein lies the album’s most radical shift: Where previous Destroyer albums were locked in combat with the world, Dan’s Boogie dances with it, its nine reveries coalescing into one long hustle. Dan Bejar’s eye may be on the exits, but he’s not leaving anytime soon.

No hyperbole, Jennifer Castle is a spectacular songwriter. Castle’s singing carries the joy of life. It’s what helps keep the artist perched on the vanguard of celestial country and fantastical folk, a title she affirms once again. – The Fadera work that may well stand the test of time as a masterpiece. – Aquarium Drunkard

Castle’s music is not so much of the earth as floating above it, untethered to the natural order of time and space and often eschewing typical verse/chorus/verse structure to roam according to its own wandering spirit. As Lou Reed famously sang, “between thought and expression lies a lifetime,” and that’s where Jennifer Castle’s songs live—that grey area where observation mutates into rumination, and where the physical world dissolves into psychic terrain. – Pitchfork

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Jennifer Castle is not of this world. She seems to exist as a spectre, floating above and around just about every notable songwriter currently active in Canada. They know she’s present and they all do their best to appease her, or at least achieve what she is able to accomplish in her songs. That is no small task, as Jennifer Castle only writes songs that are rich in melody and structure; in poetry and spirit. A better north star they could not find. – Dominionated

You might bet against the notion of anyone other than Lana Del Rey calling an album Angels of Death and not drowning in her own pretentiousness. With the Toronto singer Castle, you’d lose. The first song is last night’s dream you can’t remember; Castle remembers it for you, and as the songs roll on she stays on that path. The action is all in the interstices between the melody and the cadence, the voice and the instrumentation. The melody seems called up by the cadence, the instrumentation feels like a reflection of the voice, and you can find yourself listening for those tiny lifts, the suspensions in the songs replacing the songs themselves. – Greil Marcus, Village Voice

The one has a refreshing beatnik matter-of-factness to it, but Castle is a poet always at heart and even her simple, sentimental line, “I didn’t want to look to find you gone,” feels revelatory. Perhaps that’s Castle’s finest skill, her ability to pinpoint the luminous in the everyday. – Aquarium Drunkard

Warner Music Nashville’s rising star, Redferrin, has quickly become one of country music’s most electrifying new voices. Much like the iconic Old No. 7 whiskey, crafted in Tennessee just like Redferrin, his music delivers a bold, but welcome, punch. Redferrin’s unique blend of country roots and hip-hop swagger is a fresh take on modern country, and with his new, highly anticipated, sophomore EP, Some City, Somewhere, he’s primed to make an even bigger impact.

Redferrin’s debut EP, Old No. 7 (which released February 16, 2024), featured seven songs, all co-written and co-produced by the Tennessee native. Old No. 7 proved to be massively successful, boasting over 275 million global streams, spawning viral hits as “Just Like Johnny” and “Jack and Diet Coke,” both of which have earned RIAA GOLD certifications, amassing 167M and 121M global streams respectively, and landing a coveted spot on Spotify’s Viral 50 (US) chart. To top it off, fellow Tennessee native Juicy J gave “Jack and Diet Coke” a hip-hop remix that took the already hit song in a bold new direction. On the heels of his debut EP, and ahead of the new music coming on Some City, Somewhere, Redferrin took his style of music to the fans. In 2024, Redferrin SOLD OUT nearly 30 of his 44 headlining shows, played 22 festivals including the UK’s Country-2-Country, Barefoot Country Music Festival, CMA Music Fest, Tailgates and Tallboys, Cavendish Beach Music Fest, Boots in the Park, and Boots and Hearts Festival to name a few. He shared the stage with legends like Niko Moon, Billy Currington, and Russell Dickerson, and in August 2024, he took his talent overseas with a UK tour, hitting cities like Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, and London.

Named a 2024 Amazon Breakthrough Artist to Watch and part of the RIAA Class of 2024, Redferrin has already surpassed 400 million global streams, cementing his status as one of country music’s fastest-rising stars. In addition to his own songs, Redferrin’s songwriting credits can be found among other hit-making artists such as Florida Georgia Line’s “Lil Bit” featuring Nelly, “New Truck,” and Dean Brody & The Reklaws’ massive hit “Can’t Help Myself.” Originally from White House, Tennessee, Redferrin’s journey to country music stardom started on the national Arenacross circuit before his passion for songwriting led him to Nashville. With Some City, Somewhere on the horizon, it’s clear that Redferrin’s story is just beginning, and the best is yet to come.

Shane Mauss

Shane Mauss caught his first big breaks early in his career with appearances on Conan, Comedy Central, HBO, and Showtime. Since then, he’s spent nearly 20 years touring full-time—carving one of the most unconventional paths in comedy.

He’s done comedy specials about animal mating behavior, the evolution of moods, and early next year releases the most spectacular work of his career – an epic two-part comedy special about psychedelics.

“Trips” part 1

“Trips” part 2

Driven by a fascination with the psychology, behavior, decision making, and science’s unique lens on the human condition, Shane began interviewing scientists at universities in the towns where he performed—just as a hobby. That curiosity snowballed into Here We Are, a podcast with over 400 scientist interviews, and a series of themed comedy shows that take ambitious ideas and make them hilarious, relatable, and accessible for the lifelong learner.

A former factory worker turned mind explorer and self-taught wildman, Shane never went to college—yet somehow found himself swapping ideas with some of the world’s brightest minds. His work blends stand-up comedy with thought-provoking insights, offering an experience that goes beyond the typical night of laughs.

A rebel with a cause, Shane creates “elevated comedy” for audiences who are as intellectually curious as they are fun—people hungry for something cerebral, original, and off-beat.

Be one of the first to see his new tour that hilariously explores cognitive quirks behind misinformation through history while offering inspiration for making sense of this wild existence.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Cameron Whitcomb has announced a new series of US headline
dates, continuing what has proven the biggest live run of his career. The I’ve Got Options Tour
gets underway August 5 at Minneapolis, MN’s famed First Avenue and then travels until mid-
November. Highlights include an eagerly awaited two-night stand at West Hollywood, CA’s
historic Troubadour (October 4-5). Support on select dates comes from Jonah Kagen and
Tayler Holder. General on-sales start Friday, June 13 at 10:00 am (local). For complete details
and ticket information, please visit thecamwhitcomb.com.
Having already spent much of the past year on the road, Whitcomb is set to keep the
momentum going with a nonstop live schedule that includes this weekend’s at CMA Fest
Presented by SoFi in Nashville, TN, with performances at Spotify House (Friday, June 6 at 1:00
pm) and the Good Molecules Reverb Stage (Saturday, June 7 at 2:45 pm). The Nanaimo, BC-
based artist’s stacked live schedule resumes in July with the next leg of his hugely successful
Hundred Mile High Tour, including a Canadian run that saw over 80% of all tickets sold out
during presales before box offices officially opened to the general public. Highlights include sold
out home province two-night stands at Vancouver, BC’s famed Commodore Ballroom (July 17,
22) and Kelowna, BC’s Revelry (July 25-26). Additional dates include festival performances at
such iconic events as Calgary, AB’s Calgary Stampede (July 10), a recently added US headline
show at Seattle, WA’s Showbox SoDo (July 18), a number of sold out previously announced US
headline dates, and the eagerly awaited EU/UK leg of the Hundred Mile High Tour.
Currently boasting over 7M monthly listeners on Spotify, more than 3M fans across social
platforms, and over 300M worldwide streams and counting, Whitcomb is well into what is
shaping up as a landmark 2025, including the recent arrival of his fiery new single, “Gasoline &
Matches,” available now via Atlantic Records HERE. Produced by frequent collaborator Jack
Riley (Knox, Grace VanderWaal) and co-written by Whitcomb, Riley, and singer-songwriter
Chance Emerson, the incendiary track reminds us that while you can destroy the physical
reminders of a relationship, you can’t burn the memories.
“Gasoline & Matches” follows this spring’s breakout hit single, “Bad Apple,” which debuted as
the #2 Most Added track at Alternative Radio outlets nationwide upon release. Produced by
Jack Riley and co-written by Whitcomb, Riley, Nolan Sipe, and Cal Shapiro (co-writer of Alex
Warren’s #1 hit single, “Ordinary”), the track sees Cameron pushing his intensely personal
sound in a new alternative direction, employing the age-old metaphor of “one bad apple can
spoil the barrel” to grapple with the idea of how things can be so good, yet so bad at the same
time. An official live performance video is streaming now at YouTube HERE.
Recently featured globally on the cover of Apple Music’s Today Country and named to both
Spotify and Amazon Music’s 2025 Artists To Watch lists as well as Shazam’s Fast Forward
2025, Whitcomb’s seemingly unstoppable run of new music has also seen him joining forces
with rising indie folk artist Evan Honer for the raw and vulnerable collaborative single, “My
Expense“ along with his own emotionally vivid “Options“ and larger-than-life anthem “Hundred
Mile High.” The latter earned first-week streams in excess of 1.6M and critical applause from
MTV, Entertainment Tonight, UPROXX, Ones To Watch, and ELLE, which named it among
“The Best New Songs We Heard In January,” writing, “The return of modern folk was written
in the stars… Cameron Whitcomb enters the conversation with ‘Hundred Mile High.’ The banjos
pump the song forward, beckoning listeners on a cross-country road trip.”
2025 kicked off with the release of “Medusa (Acoustic),” a new stripped-down rendition of his
captivating fan favorite, “Medusa,” available now HERE. Featured as one of Billboard’s “5
Must-Hear New Country Songs,” upon release, the original version of “Medusa“ has quickly
amassed over 100M global streams and counting.
All this follows a breakthrough 2024 for the fast-rising 21-year-old singer-songwriter that
featured the release of his remarkable debut EP, Quitter, available everywhere now HERE.
Partly inspired by his journey in overcoming addiction, the acclaimed collection – includes
profoundly personal singles including “Love Myself“ and the soul-searching title track, “Quitter,”
the latter of which was praised by Billboard as “an anthemic folk track in the mold of Noah
Kahan powered by a kick-clap beat and Whitcomb’s growling vocal.” Now boasting more than
85M global streams, “Quitter,” which chronicles Whitcomb’s battle to overcome addiction,
further made history as his first-ever single to reach the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 – his
biggest chart success to date. Whitcomb celebrated by traveling North America on his wide-
ranging Quitter Tour, a hugely successful run of headline dates that included sold-out shows at
such renowned venues as Nashville, TN’s The Mil at Cannery Hall, New York City’s Mercury
Lounge, and more.
One of the most captivating new songwriters of his generation, Cameron Whitcomb turns the
most candid details of his real-life experience into songs with a strangely exhilarating power.
Hailing from British Columbia’s Vancouver Island, Whitcomb left home at age 17 and got a job
working on a pipeline, later spending much of his downtime singing karaoke and posting covers
on Reddit. When an American Idol executive took note of his undeniable vocal talent, he landed
a spot on the show’s 20th season and emerged as a top 20 finalist. Whitcomb then immersed
himself in learning to write songs while deep in the process of getting sober. After making his
label debut with 2024’s “Rocking Chair” – which amassed over 40M combined views across
socials prior to its premiere – Whitcomb took off on a fast ascent that soon found him embarking
on his first-ever headline run, the sold-out Quitter Tour.
