Farmers Market Pavilion Highlight: Amor Fati, solo set 6:30-8:30pm

Kick off the new year with solo performances by Lee Takasugi and Cris Cordero, members of local band Amor Fati. Lee, formerly of the LA-based band Visiting Violette, and Cordero, a multi-instrumentalist, blend indie pop, rock, and jazz to create eclectic sounds described as what happens when “Feist meets the Pretenders, shares a cab with Tori Amos, and has tea with Nina Simone.”

Cherry Blossom Musical Arts and Artistas Intérpretes O Ejecutantes are pleased to announce that Marc Egea of Catalonia, Spain and Paul Safar of Eugene, Oregon will present a mini tour (Why Not ’25) of three concerts in Oregon the week of July 28th, 2025.

This unique Hurdy Gurdy and Piano Duo meets in person once a year to present an eclectic mix of orginal, traditional, classical and contemporary music. Their set includes compositions of Catalan composer Mompou, American Jazz Standards, free improvisation and more all on this unique and ancient stringed instrument and piano.

Marc and Paul’s collaboration began during the first months of the pandemic when they released an online recording of free improvisations, https://marcegea.bandcamp.com/album/morning-improvisations. Since then, Paul has written a number of pieces for Marc including “Pendulum Palindrome” which was featured at the New Music Gathering in 2021.

In summer of 2023, Marc and Paul presented concerts in Eugene and Cottage Grove, OR. Then, in summer 2024, they performed in Sant Pol and Arenys de Mar, Catalonia to large and enthusiastic audiences.

Each musician is a composer-performer and enjoys exploring music from one anothers homelands. Marc also plays the flabiol, a traditional Catalan flute that is played one handed. And Paul is known to supplement piano with vocals or melodica.

As special guests on the Lincoln Hall concert in Portland, Humanis, a small a capella choir and Eugene based poet Ingrid Wendt will also be an integral part of the show. “Lacrimosa”, which uses a poem by Wendt from her book The Angle of Sharpest Ascending will be world premiered at this special collaborative concert which will have themes of reconcilliation and peace.

Marc and Paul are one of the few hurdy gurdy pianos duos around and present a truly unique cross cultural collaboration.

With OFAM 2025 Summer, Chuck Redd and company (including guest directors Will & Peter Anderson, Shirley Andress, Lynnea Barry and Siri Vik) continue their celebration of popular and jazz musicians’ ongoing interpretations and reinterpretations of their musical source material. While continuing their look—begun at OFAM 2025 Winter—at jazz musicians’ adoption of songs from the Classic Songbook (featuring Jerome Kern, Harry Warren, Jimmy Van Heusen among others), they will also look at source material originally written as jazz (Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, Louis Armstrong, etc.) which became jazz standards and often Songbook standards as well.

Visual Management is the use of visual and other sensory communication and control tools in an operation or process to reduce waste. This workshop will provide an introduction to Visual Management and present many of its practical applications such as:
• Establishing a common communication “language” in a work area,
• Providing “at a glance” management of work area,
• Facilitating teamwork, dignity and self-esteem,
• Focusing the workgroup on:
• Urgent and important problems
• Goals and Objectives
• Continuous Improvement
• Providing tools for the elimination of waste

5S is a technique that results in a workplace that is clean, uncluttered, safe and well organized. The 5S pillars, Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain, provide a methodology for organizing, cleaning, developing, and sustaining a productive work environment. A 5S environment has “a place for everything and everything in its place,” with all office tools and materials ready where and when they are needed. Learn how 5S can help reduce waste and optimize productivity in any work environment.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain an understanding of the 5 pillars of 5S, what each entails, and how to apply it in an organization.

Rizo

The New York Times once referred to Rizo as “SENSATIONAL… A fierce but kindhearted fusion of comedy, burlesque, performance art, and rock ‘n’ roll.” Taking a cue from Piaf, Rizo (né Amelia Zirin-Brown) fully embraces the role of chanteuse. In recordings, she is a mysterious figure, a siren ushering you through tableaus of heartbreak, lust, and the murkiness in between. Live, she is an eyeful.

An international cult favorite, her stage shows bring her powerhouse vocals together with seductive storytelling and wild hilarious audience experiments. Rizo is a provocateur with an electric wit, and has been called a “diva par excellence” by The Guardian. In the studio she has collaborated with Moby, Reggie Watts, and Yo-Yo Ma; whose album Songs of Joy & Peace, which features Rizo, won a Grammy Award.

Rizo has also received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Time Out London theater award, and a London Cabaret Award. Rizo recently starred in the role of Madame Zinzanni in the revival of the much beloved Teatro ZinZanni and is in development for a television project with Michael Carbonaro of the popular series “The Carbonaro Effect.”

Making Movies

Founded by Enrique Chi—a songwriter, musician, filmmaker, and activist—the Latin Grammy-nominated Making Movies serves as the primary platform for Chi’s creative mission. Rooted in the rich traditions of Panamá, a crisol de razas, the band’s sound is an embodiment of those diverse cultures, offering listeners a unique experience that feels both extraordinary and familiar. Described by NPR as “Perhaps one of the most unique groups around today, Making Movies is sensual, smoky, and seductive.” The band’s accomplishments include collaborations with legendary artists like Rubén Blades, performances at major international festivals, and tours with notable acts such as Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Las Cafeteras, and Flor De Toloache. Chi is also producing AMERI’KANA TV, a National Endowment for the Arts-funded documentary series that explores an alternate history of American music, continuing their mission to inspire and educate. Their next studio album is set to be released in early 2025.

On Friday, August 22nd the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes Tracy Bonham to the WOW Hall.

Tracy Bonham is a classically trained violinist and pianist turned alternative singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 1996 with her twice GRAMMY™ nominated album, The Burdens of Being Upright (Island Records). This debut album cast Bonham into the global spotlight with MTV fame and major radio airplay with her #1 alternative chart-topping song Mother Mother, an anthem for disgruntled teenagers of all ages. While so many of her songs have been placed in film and tv throughout the decades, you might have most recently heard Mother Mother in Yellow Jackets season 1 episode 2.
Over the past 27 years, Bonham’s albums and live performances have shown what it is to be an ever-evolving artist. While Bonham sings, she moves from guitar to violin, from violin to piano, and back again. When playing live, her songs from the 90s blend and blur with stylistic changes that she has created over time making her entire repertoire make sense as an entire body of work. She plays the old and new material and even though the songs span thirty years they all continue to be equally relevant.
Bonham will be joined by upright bassist Rene Hart (David Amram, James Hunter) and drummer Alvester Garnett (Regina Carter, Abbey Lincoln) and with her new material she connects to something deeper than ever, her true self. Most of the new songs are performed on the piano giving her the chance to lean back to what made her fall in love with music in the first place. Borrowing harmonic structures and beautiful melodies from her favorite classical romantic composers, Bonham stretches herself artistically to combine this rediscovered passion with her unique and quirky songwriting style to create musical alchemy. This purifying process most certainly acts as a vehicle for inner transformation for Bonham.

LEAN Practitioner

Improvement projects can range from quick, cyclical improvements, to planned rapid improvements, to long-term strategic initiatives. In this course we discuss 1) the different types of improvement projects and the LEAN tools and techniques that apply and 2) the principles of Lean and the tools in your Lean toolbox to help you identify your business processes with the potential for improvement. You’ll also learn how to collaborate with your stakeholders in order to get the improvement work done.

In this class we will cover:

Different project types and techniques to support success
Documentation practices that help you achieve buy-in and manage expectations
Lean tools that you might integrate into your projects
Tools that help to support collaboration, team accountability, and communication

Prerequisite: None

Learning Objectives:

Understand and describe the different types of projects that result from Lean analysis activities
Knowledge and understanding of how the Lean tools support success
Identify basic project management tools that you can utilize in Lean improvement initiatives that support collaboration and successful project outcomes

His shows fuse stunning feats of mind-reading with storytelling, razor sharp wit, and improvisational comedy to create unique live entertainment experiences. Aged nine, Peter decided he wanted superpowers. So, in a way only a child can, he set out to learn the impossible: how to read people’s minds. Twenty years later, he has studied with psychologists, hypnotists, psychics, magicians, and shamans to develop his uncanny and unique abilities.
