It is a course that highlights the work of writing women as they explore their own lives. With a slight change of emphasis, it also becomes a course about the act of writing about the lives of women. And with a subtle shift in the order of the words, the course title becomes Women’s Writing Lives, a celebration of the endurance of women who write and engage with the world through language. This course will explore all three aspects of this title by engaging with biography and memoir, poetry and dramatic performance.

In addition, this course begins with the assumption that being a “writer” is not limited to a professional pursuit but includes anyone who takes pen to hand and puts thoughts on paper. Thus, our class will engage with the act of writing itself, in the form of short reflections, memories, and random musings as part of each class’s format.

Combining lecture and discussion, we will often work in groups that will then report to the larger class for general discussion. The course will also contain a writing component: each week, participants will be asked to compose a short “free-write” on a topic related to that week’s discussion, which volunteers may share with the class.

Taking center stage, Joshua and his band will skillfully render the timeless classics of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. From the foot-tapping rhythms of “La Bamba” to the infectious energy of “That’ll be The Day” and the soulful ballad, “Donna,” Joshua’s performance promises to be a captivating journey through the golden era of rock and roll.
But the magic doesn’t stop there. In addition to the chart-toppers, Joshua will delve into the lesser-known treasures of Ritchie Valens’ repertoire, treating the audience to gems like “Ritchie’s Blues” and the enchanting “Malagueña.” These selections shine a light on the depth and versatility of the Chicano musical tradition.

Every writer out there has dealt with writer’s block.

Maybe you’ve tried forcing yourself to write but haven’t been able to come up with anything, or maybe you’ve avoided the pen and paper (or keyboard) altogether.

Sometimes what you need is a little outside inspiration!

By the end of each session, you’ll be out of the blank page rut and moving your word wagon onward again!

To celebrate Black History Month, award-winning filmmaker and founder of Black Bald Films, Dru Holley is embarking on a multi-city viewing tour for his documentary film Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts.

The film tells the powerful story of the African American soldiers who served in the U.S. Army during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Often overlooked in history, these brave men fought not only on the frontlines of battle but also against racial injustice within the military and society. This documentary sheds light on the courage and resilience of the Buffalo Soldiers as they navigated the complex challenges of racism, war, and their contributions to the American frontier. Through historical insights and personal stories, the film honors their legacy and sheds new light on an important chapter in American history.

“The central focus of our documentary is these accomplished Black men that are in our past that we need to remember, and to remember the strength that’s in our DNA,” Holley says. “It’s about knowing that we have more of a history than slavery in America, that we’re also bad-ass Buffalo Soldiers, and they did more of the work than fight Natives. We want to say, ‘Don’t be scared to come out of the inner cities and go to the national parks. That’s part of our history too.’”

Captivating audiences and winning awards at film festivals across the country since its debut, Buffalo Soldiers “provides a unique narrative to a part of our history that has been overlooked and overshadowed. [the film] is steeped in history, yet it’s timely,” says Seattle Medium.

Established by Congress in 1867, Many African American men enlisted in exchange for full citizenship as promised by the 14th Amendment, but were denied this right by the Jim Crow laws established in the Reconstructionist South. In spite of that, these patriotic men helped lead the United States expansion westward; they built and guarded the Pacific Railroad and served as park rangers in places like Yosemite before the U.S. government established the National Park Service.

These African American soldiers fought bravely in the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, the Mexican Punitive Expedition, World War I & World War II, but the Buffalo Soldiers also participated in the subjugation of Native peoples as the United States appropriated tribal land, the persecution of striking silver miners in Idaho, and against Filipinos fighting for independence during the Spanish-American War, resulting in a complicated legacy.

It is particularly relevant today as our country is roiling with the agony of racial strife. By combining a multitude of diverse perspectives, the film examines the profound and often-contradictory roles played in American history by The Buffalo Soldiers, and how they fought on two very different sets of front lines: military conflicts abroad and civil rights struggles at home.

The two-month tour is sponsored by Meyer Memorial Trust, 1803 Fund, Colorado Historical Society & Paul & Deborah Speers.

Visit https://buffalosoldiersmovie.com/ for more viewing and event updates.

About the filmmaker:
Dru Holley is an award-winning filmmaker and founder of Black Bald Films, dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and telling the stories often left out of mainstream narratives. With a passion for history and social justice, Dru’s work highlights the connections between Black and Native American communities, exploring untold stories with a focus on resilience, identity, and empowerment. His films aim to inspire and educate audiences, fostering a deeper understanding of the past to create a more inclusive future.

February 11, 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Quick & Easy Kaizen
LEAN Core

Kaizen - “Kai” to change “Zen” for the good
Kaizen is a Japanese term for continuous improvement based on principles of doing things better and achieving higher standards. It is a process or methodology to do continuous incremental improvements that create more value with less waste. Continuous Improvement can often be done quickly and routinely to improve a workflow and value stream processes. This in turn creates reduced costs, improved performance, and gives organizations a competitive edge in the global marketplace. It embraces the philosophy that we are all problem solvers.

This Introduction to Quick and Easy Kaizen will touch upon:
• The Kaizen Process, who’s involved in it, and its benefits to an organization
• Scoping a Continuous Improvement Opportunity (problem/issue) that could be easily addressed through the Kaizen Process
• Going to the Next Steps; Successful Models and Planning a Kaizen for your Enterprise
• Success factors in doing and creating a Kaizen culture at your organization

Prerequisite: None.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand what Quick & Easy Kaizen (Q&EK) is and why organizations use it.
2. See examples of Q&EK in action
3. Learn how you might implement a Q&EK program at your organization.

Fees: Free to EVLA member organizations; $125 per person for non-member organizations.

Over the course of Valentines Day weekend with Jorah LaFleur (voted the Best Poet in Eugene!), you’ll move from a blank page to sharing onstage as you write and perform a spoken word poem.

-You’re a writer who enjoys the productive power of a committed container full of prompts, new approaches, and invitations to get unstuck.
-You’re a bit terrified of hearing your voice on a mic, and have a secret desire to share your work with an audience.

This course is a journey through this complex region, drawing on geography, geology, evolution, and ecology. We explore the history and inter-relationships of the physical landscape and the biological organisms that inhabit this unique area. While the course emphasizes broad principles, the examples given will be drawn from the Western landscape and the plants and animals that dwell there. This educational series enables students to appreciate the West better through follow-up field trips, vacations, and general sightseeing. However, it is crucial to acknowledge humans' significant impact on this region, with species extinctions, habitat loss, and climate change becoming increasingly prevalent. To that end, class participants may be inclined to work towards conserving these precious natural resources.

MAGIC CITY HIPPIES

Imagine, the memorable clink of ice hitting a rocks glass, the scent of muddled limes and mint, the faint crackle as the tipple is poured, the effervescent fizz of soda about to broach the rim, the straw insertion and swirl, the first sip of vacation...Life would be miserable without these gifts, and life would most certainly suck without the perfect soundtrack to the first cocktail of some much needed time off. Pop the cork on some Magic City Hippies.

MCH initially floated onto the scene as Robby Hunter Band, but stumbled into their true identity in 2015 when their album Magic City Hippies gave them a fresh sound and a new name. Fusing Miami’s sunshine-soaked funk with an after-hours swagger, they’ve since captivated audiences worldwide, from intimate clubs to the stages of Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and Lollapalooza.

Their Hippie Castle EP (2015) was just the tip of the proverbial ice cube in a cocktail glass of hippie sass, blending poolside melodies and three-day weekend grooves. By the time Modern Animal (2019) arrived, Magic City Hippies had taken listeners beachside, layering even more sultry swank onto their already laid-back vibe. A few years later, Water Your Garden (2022) brought a shimmering, joyous soundtrack to a world emerging from isolation, celebrating both solo and shared moments of dance.

In 2024, the band continued their evolution with vibrant singles like the disco-funk “Givin’ Up On Lovin’” and the psych-pop, acid-house blend of “I Can’t Let You Go,” teasing a larger project on the horizon and solidifying their eclectic, ever-expanding sonic mosaic. While their studio albums have garnered both fan and critical acclaim, it's the band's electrifying live shows that truly set them apart. Their unapologetically high-energy performances have a way of breaking even the most reluctant attendees, pulling them into a groove that feels as irresistible as it is spontaneous.

First-time attendees often walk away as devoted fans, a near-ritualistic transformation that's become a signature of the Magic City Hippies' live experience. Whether this sunshine funk is all up inside your alley, or even if pink neon signs flashing the words SENSUAL AUDIBLE MASSAGE just have you curious, Magic City Hippies deliver a rare blend of musical talent and touring tenacity, offering up funky sweaty smiles aplenty.

Do you wish you could capture the essence of a story in fewer words? Or maybe you’ve tried writing short stories but feel like you’re rambling?

The Art of Brevity is here to help you discover the beauty of saying more with less. You’ll learn how to get to the heart of a story in fewer words, and how to craft engaging, compact narratives that leave a lasting impression.

In this workshop, Grant Faulkner, co-founder of 100 Word Story, will guide you through the secrets of writing concise, powerful flash fiction.

This workshop is perfect for writers who are ready to trim the fat and get straight to the heart of their stories. Whether you’re a beginner trying to tackle the art of short fiction or an experienced writer looking to sharpen your storytelling skills, this class will help you craft compact, compelling stories that leave readers wanting more. If you’re the type of writer who’s always looking for ways to be more efficient with your words (and maybe spend a little less time on your thesaurus), this workshop is for you.

Have you ever stared at a blank page, wondering how to start your story without making it go on forever? Maybe you’ve tried to keep your writing short and sweet, but ended up rambling. Or maybe you’ve been told, “Just cut the fluff!” but aren’t quite sure how. Writing shorter fiction might feel like a puzzle—one where every word counts, but you’re not sure how to piece them together.

Here’s the thing: brevity is an art, and it doesn’t come naturally to everyone. It’s hard to leave out the details you think are essential, or to resist the urge to embellish. You might have tried writing short stories or flash fiction before but found that trimming the excess made your writing feel flat or incomplete. That’s because great flash fiction isn’t just about cutting—it’s about choosing. It’s about making every word work hard, so your readers feel like they’ve experienced a full story, even if they read it in under five minutes.

But don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. In The Art of Brevity, you’ll learn how to write stories that feel complete, even within the tightest constraints. With tips from Grant Faulkner, you’ll unlock the power of suggestion, build emotional depth in a few lines, and harness the unique potential of flash fiction.

"Absolutely essential reading on the power and craft of very short stories. Worth it for the brilliant analysis of narrative and poetics, worth it for Faulkner's playfulness and obvious joy on the page, worth it for the string of fascinating quotations at the end. A generous book, packed full, it is bound to be a classic." -Deb Olin Unferth, author of Revolution: The Year I Fell in Love and Went to Join the War

What You Can Expect:

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be equipped with tools and strategies to:
-Write flash fiction that’s more than just a snapshot—it’s a complete story, told in just a few words.
-Master the art of implication, using what you don’t say as much as what you do.
-Build stories with gaps, where the silence between words says as much as the words themselves.
-Challenge your creativity by working within strict limits to unlock new ways of thinking about storytelling.
-Feel confident in editing your work to its essence, knowing what to cut and what to keep.

Get ready to flex those writing muscles, trim the excess, and discover how less really can be more. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just dipping your toes into the world of flash fiction, this class will help you make every word count.

***SUPPORTING ACT***

THE ALMOST

“I feel like I do the best under pressure when things are bad,” states The Almost frontman, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Aaron Gillespie. “I need pressure and chaos to push me to be the best me. People want peace, but I don’t strive in peace.” In order to record The Almost’s Fearless Records debut, Fear Caller, Aaron went to one of the most unpredictable and unstable ecosystems possible: the desert.

The desert harbors countless ghosts, innumerable stories, and endless secrets. Various philosophies, texts, and religions point to it as the very source of creation. He fulfilled this urge after a period of dormancy for The Almost. In between his duties as vocalist and drummer for gold-certified three-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated juggernaut Underoath, Aaron introduced The Almost on 2007’s seminal Southern Weather.

The group shared the stage with everyone from Faith No More and Jane’s Addiction to A Day To Remember over the years. In between The Almost and Underoath records, he also spent two years touring behind the kit for Paramore. This time around, storytelling took center stage. The songcraft fulfills the potential he always exhibited at a now classic level. Inspired by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Brand New, and Dawes, he delivers the masterpiece he was always meant to make, achieving an artist breakthrough on par with those aforementioned influences by diving into the process like never before.

Loaded guns, space heaters, and big skies. Welcome to the lethal littered landscape of Jim Heath’s imagination. True to his high evangelical calling, Jim is a Revelator, both revealing & reinterpreting the country-blues-rock roots of American music. He’s a time-traveling space-cowboy on a endless interstellar musical tour, and we are all the richer & “psychobillier” for getting to tag along.

Seeing REVEREND HORTON HEAT live is a transformative experience. Flames come off the guitars. Heat singes your skin. There’s nothing like the primal tribal rock & roll transfiguration of a Reverend Horton Heat show. Jim becomes a slicked-back 1950′s rock & roll shaman channeling Screamin’ Jay Hawkins through Buddy Holly, while Jimbo incinerates the Stand-Up Bass. And then there are the “Heatettes”. Those foxy rockabilly chicks dressed in poodle-skirts and cowboy boots slamming the night away. It’s like being magically transported into a Teen Exploitation picture from the 1950′s that’s currently taking place in the future.

Listening to the REVEREND HORTON HEAT is tantamount to injecting pure musical nitrous into the hot-rod engine of your heart. The Reverend’s commandants are simple.

And no band on this, or any other, planet rocks harder, drives faster, or lives truer than the Reverend Horton Heat. These “itinerant preachers” actually practice what they preach. They live their lives by the Gospel of Rock & Roll.

From the High-Octane Spaghetti-Western Wall of Sound in “Big Sky” — to the dark driving frenetic paranoia of “400 Bucks” – to the brain-melting Western Psychedelic Garage purity of “Psychobilly Freakout” — The Rev’s music is the perfect soundtrack to the Drive-In Movie of your life.

Jim Heath & Jimbo Wallace have chewed up more road than the Google Maps drivers. For twenty-five Psychobilly years, they have blazed an indelible, unforgettable, and meteoric trail across the globe with their unique blend of musical virtuosity, legendary showmanship, and mythic imagery.

“Okay it’s time for me to put this loaded gun down, jump in my Five-Oh Ford, and nurture my pig on the outskirts of Houston. I’ll be bringing my love whip. See y’all later.” - Carty Talkington Writer/Director

Rev your engines and catch the sermon on the road as it’s preached by everybody’s favorite Reverend. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the 11th studio album from REVEREND HORTON HEAT, boldly titled Rev, due out January 21st.

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H96XcNWKZVg[/embed]

***SUPPORTING ACT***

BLACK JOE LEWIS

Anatomy texts might not show it, but the greatest soul and blues music leaves no doubt that the hip bone is directly connected to the heart -- a fact that's driven home in every note laid down by Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. As they prove on their Lost Highway debut, Tell 'Em What Your Name Is, the Austin-based combo has the kind of gritty attitude and deliciously greasy groove-consciousness that'd pass muster in the toughest juke joint.

To paraphrase Ike and Tina Turner, Tell 'Em What Your Name Is gives Lewis the chance to play nice and easy as well as nice and rough. He and his bandmates take the latter route more often -- as on the fiery, brass-laced opener "Gunpowder" and the unabashedly horndog anthem "Big Booty Woman." But there's far more than one trick up their collective sleeve, as borne out by the dark New Orleans march "Master Sold My Baby."

"It's weird..people say I come up with all these different kinds of songs, and I guess that's true, but they all just come out naturally," says Lewis, who cites James Brown and Lightnin' Hopkins as two of his bigger influences. "If I sit down and try to write a song, it just sounds contrived. All the songs on this record, I just made up as I went along. I couldn't do a lot of 'em again if I didn't have 'em on tape."

That from-the-gut stream-of-consciousness permeates the disc, with Lewis wailing wildly -- in a voice that's one part Joe Tex, one part Tyrone Davis -- through sweat-soaked offerings like the gutbucket "I'm Broke" and "Please, Part Two" as his bandmates turn up the heat, taking a low simmer to a full boil with turn-on-a-dime precision.

"The thing about the band is that we play with each other, not against each other," says Honeybears' guitarist Zach Ernst. "It's not a contest, the way it is in some bands. We communicate with each other without speaking, and I think that has a lot to do with Joe's attitude -- he has an amazing ability to just draw people in. For a lot of people, the blues is a museum piece, but Joe brings it into the moment."

If not for a twist of fate, Lewis might never have gotten up on stage at all. Growing up in the small town of Round Rock, Texas, he was more likely to be found on the football field than in the band room -- but landing a job in an Austin pawn shop put him at a (shall we say) crossroads in life.

"My dad and my uncles listened to soul and blues when I was a kid, but I never really took much notice," says Lewis. "When I was about 19 or 20, I was working in this pawn shop and all these guys would bring in guitars. One day, I started playing around with one and took it home and started teaching myself how to play."

Buoyed by the encouragement of friends, Lewis soon gravitated to the fertile open mic scene of his adopted hometown, where he performed as a solo artist, a period he now laughingly recalls as "horrible..I was usually too drunk or too scared to put on a good show, but people kept asking me to come back."

While he eventually put together a band with a solid lineup, Lewis couldn't capture the mojo he was looking for and was seriously considering retiring from music in his mid-twenties -- until Ernst entered the picture.

"I was on the [University of Texas] programming board and we'd booked Little Richard to do a show and I immediately thought of Joe," says the guitarist. "I heard he was down on music and was working at a restaurant shucking oysters, so I approached him as a fan -- and Joe ended up playing the show with his old band."

The plea worked, the gig was explosive, but also a partnership was born. Shortly after that gig, Zach formed a band around Joe and the rough and ready Honeybears' were born. Four weeks later, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears played their first gig. Their stylings quickly drew attention from local tastemakers -- like the Austin Chronicle, which marveled at the singer's ability to "spit lyrics in short bursts of aggression like bricks at glass windows" -- and fellow musicians like Okkervil River and Spoon, both of which tapped him and the Honeybears to hit the road as an opening act.

"Joe's a really special, really natural performer," says Spoon drummer Jim Eno, who thought enough of the band to lend his production skills to the new disc. "We were able to do about 75-percent of the album live, and that's something you very, very rarely do."

The spontaneity was immediately evident on the Honeybears' self-titled EP -- which spotlighted the band's controversial, tongue-in-cheek concert staple "Bitch, I Love You" -- and is even more at the fore of Tell 'Em What Your Name Is. To hear Lewis tell it, however, they've only scratched the surface of what they're capable of.

"The way I look at it, I have to step my game up every day," he says. "I look at it as a challenge. It's great that we've gotten noticed, but we’ve got to keep those people interested and bring more people in. If you don't keep moving forward, nobody's gonna care -- and I'm gonna make sure people really care about this band."

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ-M_8pY6TI[/embed]

***OPENING ACT***

PIñATA PROTEST

Punk rock like abuela used to make!

Piñata Protest is a “Tex-Mex punk” band from San Antonio, TX. Their self described sound and attitude arises from the two counter-clashing worlds that the band embraces: punk and Tex-Mex.

Piñata Protest’s unique and catchy sound takes the traditional folk rhythms of Tex-Mex music (conjunto and norteño music that is native to the South-Texas and Nortern-Mexican region they originate from) along with the three-row button accordion and combine that with the fast tempos and attitude of punk rock, ska, and many other genres. Along with the use of traditional instruments and rhythms the band also sings in their regional mix of Spanish and English (or Spanglishas it’s called locally). Their songs lyrics cover a range of topics, from political topics close to the ethno-identities of the band, drinking, love, religion, and racism. Adding to their sonic performances is a lively and energetic live show that ignites crowds to mosh, skank, and twirl their dance partners.

Piñata Protest was founded by the Mexican-born singer, song writer, and accordionist Álvaro Del Norte. The band includes Regino Lopez on electric guitar and vocals, Richie Brown on electric bass and vocals, and Chris-Ruptive on drums. Other instruments such as the trumpet and güido are used in not only their studio recordings but their live performances as well.

For over ten years the quartet has maintained a busy schedule of performing and touring throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and France alongside range of musical acts such as The Reverend Horton Heat, Mariachi El Bronx, Molotov, GBH, Tagada Jones, Guttermouth, Voodoo Glow Skills, Brujeria, The Toadies, Ramon Ayala, The Blasters, Authority Zero, Agent Orange, Ozomatli, Mustard Plug, The Blasters, and Wayne Hancock.

Festivals are a strong point for Piñata Protest. Their very eclectic sound, interactive show, and energetic performances makes them a perfect fit for a wide variety of festivals. Most notably the band has had several official appearances at Punk Rock Bowling, SXSW, The Tejano Fan Fair, Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise, Palomino Fest, Punk In Drublic, The Latin BMI Awards, Accordion Noir, Muddy Roots Festival, and a slew punk, folk, and Mexican themed festivals.

The bands unique sound has also leaded them to be featured in soundtracks for the following major and independently release films: Tequila Re-Pasado (2023), Me Estas Matando Susana (2016), La Soldera (2015), Circus of the Dead (2014). The band has also written music specially for Me Estas Matando Susana.

The band has also had several collaborations with companies including releasing their own beer through Freetail Brewing with a released of Piñata Protest beer which was distributed in grocery chains, bars, and venues across Texas. The band has also collaborated with other worldwide brands such as Tecate beer, Ford Motor Company, and Nike Athletics.

Mapping the current state

Using Data in your VSM and to highlight opportunities

How to use the VSM to drive change through continuous improvement

Mapping the ideal Future State

Prerequisite: None

Learning Objectives:
1. When and why to do a Value Stream Map
2. How to develop a value stream map
3. Drive change within an organization
4. Practically apply these skills to develop a value stream map

Fees: Free to EVLA member organizations; $125 per person for non-member organizations.

DENM

DENM first made an impactful splash while dropping his?Slum Beach Denny LP- DENM’s sparkling?debut album which hit the scene in 2021. ?Garnering out of the box recognition from coveted playlists?including the cover of Spotify’s “Beach Vibes.”?Today, Slum Beach Denny has?tallied over 25 million streams, and?counting!?The?genre-bending, SoCal?musician, songwriter, and producer blends a unique recipe of?hazy daze optimism and?suburban beach influence?into a modern-day melting pot of hip-hop beats, dubby rhythms, and catchy vocal hooks with a bonafide?street mentality. ? DENM possesses?the edge and wit of an artist aware of?the realities of society, while addressing?his own personal values and tongue?in?cheek commentary on the quest for the American Dream.

Quickly and deservedly, he’s become?a coveted, go-to?producer amongst his core constituents, helming?the Grammy-winning Best Reggae Album of 2022, SOJA’s?Beauty in the Silence, as well as a?co-write and production on HIRIE’s top-scoring single, “Respect,”?plus his high flight collaboration on “Rage,” with Dirty Heads, Travis Barker, and The Interrupters. ?DENM also flexes his production skill set on out of the box Bounce phenom Big Freedia on the song “Strut.”

DENM’s?2nd release?Slum Beach Posse Vol. 1, a seven-song collaborative EP with?special guests Slightly?Stoopid,?Landon McNamara, Jesse James, and Benny Ranks,?dropped in 2023 spawning the unmistakable single “Wild Trip” recorded during a surf and studio bender on Oahu’s North Shore with creative conspirator and big wave surfing legend Landon McNamara.”

DENM’s music has commanded?notable synchs on several hit series, including?Netflix’s?Outer Banks,?and?All-American,?and FOX’s?Rescue: HI-Surf, and?Prime’s?Surf Girls Hawai’i. All of this comes ahead of?a series of?new?singles?preceding his forthcoming?sophomore LP and a?U.S. tour?that has DENM hitting over 30 outdoor amphitheaters with likeminded cohorts, Pepper and?Iration on the ‘Daytrippin in Paradise Summer Tour.’

“It’s?all?becoming more of what I had originally envisioned,” DENM says. ?“Everything is manifesting into?part of this really cool trajectory to take the listener to places that I like to go.”

Denm has been known to create music in unique places, from?Hawaii’s North?Shore paradise of Oahu, hanging with Landon McNamara and friends,?making music?with the Slum Beach Posse?between surf sets, or in the urban low-rider landscape of B-REAL from CYPRESS HILL’s Smoke-box studios in the alleys of Downtown Los Angeles. You may also find him behind the board and microphone?at Rock Mafia?Studios,?with?producers, Tim James and Antonina?Armato,?down the coast?in?Santa Monica, CA?or in the Pacific,?on a fishing boat drinking brews and writing tunes?with Pepper’s?Kaleo?Wassman, such as the new album’s first single “Where I’m Going,” released on July 26, 2024. Places where days-long, beats-making all-nighters in the studio are routine. ?And where autobiographical references?in his songwriting, reflecting, if not celebrating?the seedier side of life,?are the standard.

“My songs are about healing from past traumas. ?Coming of age. ?Honest songs about struggles with addiction. ?Songs about?tweakers?walking down the street really fast. ?The highs and lows of life, and love, and fatherhood,” DENM says. ?“Also, just being a mouthpiece for?art and my?surroundings, with songs about mental health, and the struggle to keep your vision clear and your head straight. ?It’s a little bit of everything.”

DENM?spent?his youth?as an admittedly troubled teen bouncing from beach town to beach town?in Southern California, teaching himself guitar at 14.??His?itinerant residencies in San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Isla Vista?marked a challenging personal narrative full of life’s harshest lessons. ?They?also?fostered deeply?genuine?and eclectic sources of inspiration for his multifaceted talents.

Whether it’s crafting his own scintillating repertoire, or collaborating with?a host of admiring peers like Slightly?Stoopid, Dirty Heads and SOJA, DENM brings?a?relentless, undeniable?vibe of authenticity to his work.??Just?three?short?years?since?his debut, he?has risen to the upper tier of the SoCal scene, volleying his time between sought-after producer and songwriter, cutting edge recording artist, and magnetic live performer.??Now, he just wants to keep rolling.

“I want to make music that makes the world move and groove,”?says DENM.?“If I just stay in that flow state, it’s only going to get?better and more fun from here.”

***SUPPORTING ACT***

TUNNEL VISION

Tunnel Vision is quickly becoming Southern California's favorite new Surf, Reggae, Ska band. The band is comprised of four musicians who grew up in the San Clemente, area with instruments in their hands and skateboards and surfboards under their feet.

Growing up in SoCal, the band was heavily influenced by the Punk Rock, Reggae and Ska music of bands like The Descendents, Black Flag, Misfits, Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, The Expendables, NoFX, Rancid, and Reel Big Fish. They've incorporated a bit from all of their influences to create their own original sound that pays homage to the sounds of those that came before them while blazing their own path and style. This new style was on full display with their 2018 LAW Records release, Days Away.

The band has released their 3 song EP, Shipwrecked, which blends all 3 songs to tell the story of hope, loss, and love with an upbeat reggae, ska and punk style that only Tunnel Vision can pull off.

Chad Tepper, a true rockstar with over 4 million social media followers, has made his presence known in the industry through his huge personality and crazy life story of perseverance (homeless for majority of his childhood). Since moving to Los Angeles in 2015, he's been building a lasting legacy in the alternative rock scene and inspiring people along the way. With a grunge voice and an all-or-nothing mindset, Tepper has garnered over 20 million streams this past year alone. His talents have been recognized by industry leaders like Billboard, ALT Press, MTV and more. Chad is a true musical renaissance man blending his biggest inspirations from rock, reggae, hiphop, pop punk and country all the while putting that true Florida boy twist on all he does.
