Event Description: Veselka, Springfield’s Ukrainian dance troupe, performs at its popular annual outdoor festival, at Nativity Ukrainian Catholic parish. Performances are at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Some 80 dancers from age five to teens to young adults make up the troupe. The troupe is a diverse mix of backgrounds with the love of Ukrainian dance in common. The morning show features children’s dances and the beautiful coming-of-age wreathing ceremony. In the afternoon, youth and senior dancers take over. Ukrainian dances are lively and athletic with colorful, festive costumes. Ukrainian style dishes being served include pyrizhky—a hearty meat-filled roll, varenyky—a traditional stuffed dumpling, and kowbasa sausage with sauerkraut, with baked goods, coffee, and soft drinks also available for purchase. Directions:
On Aspen Street on church parish grounds. Turn off Centennial Blvd., onto Aspen heading toward river. Centennial is MLK Blvd. in Eugene. Aspen is near Springfield-Eugene line.
