Event Description:
A new commission designed to support and recruit more sporting events to the region will officially launch on Monday, January 30 at 10 a.m., at the Matthew Knight Arena. Countywide representatives of sports venues and events, as well as corporate, government, media and hospitality partners, will gather for the kickoff of the newly formed Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports commission.Speakers: Kari Westlund, President & CEO, Travel Lane County; Janis Ross, Executive Director, Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports; Steve Cash, Chair of Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Advisory Council and Owner of dark30sports; Rob Mullens, Oregon Athletic Director, University of Oregon; Drew Mahalic, Chief Executive Officer, Oregon Sports Authority; Sid Leiken, Lane County Board of Commissioners. Under the corporate umbrella of Travel Lane County, Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports will collectively work to pursue and secure sporting events to the region and provide existing events with resources and support to help them strengthen and grow. The event will outline details about the initial work and strategies the group plans to implement. Local public officials, including Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy and Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg, will be in attendance along with other community leaders and members of the recently formed Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Advisory Council.
