ONE WAY OUT
ONE WAY OUT is more than just a band. It’s eight members are each and every one devotees of one of the most creative and influential rock bands of all time, a band that defined southern rock and took it to a whole new level. Every member of ONE WAY OUT brings this admiration for the music and the skills to do it justice. Our live shows are authentic and full of Allman Brothers energy and musicianship. ONE WAY OUT offers a full repertoire of music from the Allman Brothers Band, as well as individual hits from their notable side projects.
Lead vocalist and harmonica man Josh Taylor hails from Idaho Falls, ID, was raised in in California, and found his way to Portland in 2005. Josh started playing guitar and drums at age 15. He played in his first band as a drummer at age 18. One year later, he became the lead singer of that same band. The group was called Mellow Judith and played a variety of Allman Brothers Band classics from the original line up. They also played Led Zeppelin covers and a handful of originals. Through the years, Josh has been steadily playing acoustic and electric guitar in both groups and in a solo setting with singing and songwriting always being a major focus. Josh has always been involved in a band or recording project ever since he started back around 1995. Josh was the last member to join the band, and inspires everyone with his great voice, soul, and love of the Allman’s music.
Guitarist Jeff Knudson first started his commitment to the instrument at age 9. Early influenced by guitar oriented artists like AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Frank Zappa. Jeff’s influences and performing experience are diverse. After starting out in local rock bands in his hometown of Allentown, PA, Jeff made his way westward to Seattle with bassist Brent Slater and drummer Joel Tienstra and made some waves with their funky/heavy prog band LURch. After moving to Portland, OR, he joined up with blues bass player Lisa Mann, which earned him 2 Cascade Blues Association Muddy Awards, and some regional renown. Jeff’s extensive list of projects include associations with Americana artists Aimee McCaa and Wayne Richards, funk and R&B artists LaRhonda Steele, Chris Baum, and Sumo, and sat in with many blues and RnB bands in the Portland area, including Andy Stokes, Norman Sylvester, Reggie Houston, and DK Stewart. He has appeared numerous times at the internationally recognized Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, with Lisa Mann, Ken DeRouchie Band, and the Pat Stilwell Blues Alliance. In addition, Jeff operates Primordial Soup recording studio in Portland, OR.
Guitarist Pat Stilwell, originally from the Washington, D.C. area, has also spent time in Mobile, AL, Seattle, WA, San Antonio, TX, and Albuquerque, NM, picking up the musical flavors of each region along the way. Pat has played in and fronted a number of bands, including the popular Seattle blues band, the Cyclones, who were regulars on the Pioneer Square scene. While in Seattle, Pat recorded a live CD with the Cyclones and a solo studio project entitled “Kaleidoscope”, using the Cyclones as his studio band. Since moving to Portland in 2009, Pat has been making his mark on the local music scene with his innovative guitar work, soulful vocals, and skillfully crafted original songs. His playing and songwriting reflect a deep connection with the blues, as exemplified on his latest CD release, Tales From the Riverside. In 2022, Pat’s Blues Alliance performed on the Main Stage at the Portland Waterfront Blues Fest. Pat brings all this, and his slide guitar skills, to the One Way Out project.
Keyboardist Michael McGinty also hails from the east coast. Trained in his youth on trumpet and jazz piano, Michael performed in rock, soul, and fusion groups, touring up and down the eastern seaboard from New England to the Virgin Islands. On moving out west to San Diego, he played in a number of rock, roots, and blues groups, notably holding down the Saturday night house band slot at the House of Blues in the Gaslamp Quarter. While in San Diego, Michael played in the band for singer Michelle Lundeen, and performed at summer blues festivals with this group. Now living in Portland, Michael has played with a number of local rock, fusion, blues, and R&B groups, including Mr. Musu and Dept. of R&B. Like every keyboard player of his caliber, Michael also keeps busy as a hired gun for local gigs and sessions.
Portland bassist Carey Rogers has covered rock, funk, soul and blues as far back as when the White Eagle was a biker bar. He’s appeared with Dead bands Ramblin Rose, Cats Under the Stars, Terrapin Flyer and toured with Melvin Seals. Funk one night, bluegrass the next. Nobody captures the spirit, virtuosity, and power of the great Berry Oakley like our man Carey.
