Indie filmmaking is hard. Living in Oblivion makes it hilarious.
To mark the 30th anniversary of one of the great underground comedies of the ’90s, CTV is thrilled to screen Living in Oblivion (1995)—a film that every independent filmmaker, dreamer, and DIY auteur will recognize as painfully, absurdly true.
Directed by Tom DiCillo and starring Steve Buscemi in one of his most iconic roles, Living in Oblivion is a behind-the-scenes satire of the chaos, egos, technical failures, and emotional meltdowns that plague a low-budget film shoot. Structured in three surreal, interlocking acts (each one more unhinged than the last), it’s both a love letter to and a roast of the indie film scene—equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking.
In a city like Eugene, where grassroots film groups, student productions, and community art projects are constantly finding new ways to make the most with the least, Living in Oblivion couldn’t be more relevant. It reminds us why we love making art together, even when everything goes wrong—and why we keep going anyway.
Come laugh, cringe, and commiserate as we celebrate 30 years of one of independent cinema’s funniest—and most painfully accurate—portraits of the creative process.
“Making a movie is a lot like life: nothing goes as planned, and everyone thinks they’re the star.”
90 minutes. Comedy/Drama. Rated R.

n Friday, August 29th the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes psychic comedian Peter Antoniou to the WOW Hall.
PETER ANTONIOU
From London’s West End, to being a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent, Peter Antoniou has been astounding audiences around the world with his uncanny abilities. His shows fuse stunning feats of mind-reading with storytelling, razor sharp wit, and improvisational comedy to create unique live entertainment experiences. Funny, engaging, and interactive, Peter will leave you questioning just what is really possible.
Aged nine, Peter decided he wanted superpowers. So, in a way only a child can, he set out to learn the impossible: how to read people’s minds. Twenty years later, he has studied with psychologists, hypnotists, psychics, magicians, and shamans to develop his uncanny and unique abilities.
Combined with a background in improvisational comedy, Peter answers the question, “What if, rather than starting X-men, Professor X pursued a career in entertainment?”
Quickly becoming a smash hit, Peter’s work has been seen around the world, in such prestigious venues as The Royal Albert Hall, the world-famous Hippodrome Casino, The Edinburgh Playhouse, and many more. He was also a semi-finalist on Season 16 of America’s Got Talent. He now tours internationally with his ‘psychic’ comedy show, performing for blue chip companies and sell-out theatre crowds.
Not confined to comedy, Peter also has written a number of immersive theatre experiences, focusing on horror and the supernatural. These innovative approaches to entertainment put the audiences in the centre of the performance, offering them the opportunity to feel as though they are in a horror film. His flagship experience, Séance , has sold out 100% of performances since its premier in 2013.
You may well have seen some of Peter’s writing without even knowing it. Following the success of his own work, Peter has become a sought-after script doctor and consultant for other performers and theatrical productions. Working on a wide variety of projects, his ability to realize other people’s artistic vision, and capture their voices has made him the secret weapon in many of your favorite performers arsenals.
More recently, Peter has expanded his endeavors to act as a consultant, educator and professional mentor for both businesses and individuals. Whether it is identifying the right language patterns to make a presentation more convincing, finding approaches to make a sales team more effective, or the power of narrative to establish a brand, Peter is able to share his wealth of experience and unique skills to inspire, educate, and entertain. His keynote speeches and workshops have quickly gained a reputation as being engaging, enlightening, and impactful.
From amazing the judges on America’s Got Talent, to headlining in Las Vegas, to selling out shows in London’s West End, Peter Antoniou’s mind reading skills have astounded audiences around the globe. Combining razor-sharp British wit with a stunning ability to know exactly what you are thinking, Peter’s shows are interactive and unforgettable. Join him as he reads minds and tickles funny bones, telling jokes and fortunes live onstage.

On Sunday July 27th the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons to the WOW Hall.
Portland’s Jerry Joseph is a bonafide “triple-threat”, a prolific and accomplished songwriter, a powerful singer and a memorable performer. In his four-decade career; as a solo artist, with the Jackmormons, supergroup Stockholm Syndrome, his two-piece The Denmark Veseys, his beloved 80s cult band, Little Women, or most recently with Drive-by Truckers backing him; he has continuously toured the world, including such unlikely locales as Lebanon, Israel, Kurdish Iraq, India, Cambodia and Afghanistan, and released a steady stream of albums. In 40 years the Oregon Music Hall of Fame Inductee has amassed an impressive catalog of work as well as many stamps on his passport.
This September, Joseph will release his new studio album Baby You’re The Man Who Would Be King. Recorded in New York City, with renowned producer Eric ‘Roscoe’ Ambel (Nils Lofgren, The Bottle Rockets), the album features a band made up of some of New York’s best musicians – including Charlie Giordiano of The E Street Band – and fulfilled a dream of Joseph’s to make a quintessential New York album. The material was scribed in Joseph’s Portland, Ore. driveway, where he worked in a vintage camping trailer, before taking his collection to the Brooklyn, N.Y. studio during the summer of 2021. As Joseph says, “I had long been talking about making a New York record, I have spent a lot of time there but never made an album there. I met Eric Ambel a couple years earlier when he sat in with my band at Rough Trade in Brooklyn and he and I agreed these songs would be a great batch of material to finally make that album. Eric assembled a seriously wicked band, and I don’t know what he does, but it sounds like NYC to me.” He concludes:”Considering the whole Covid driveway origins, it’s surreal what we made and I’m just going to call it magic … for which I am exceedingly grateful.”
The new record will be Joseph’s first full-length studio album since 2020’s critically acclaimed The Beautiful Madness. Produced by Patterson Hood with Drive-By Truckers as his backing band, the album received rave reviews from the media including being chosen Americana Album of the Month by Uncut Magazine, in the Top 20 of 2020 by Glide Magazine and one of the Top Albums of 2020 by Paste Magazine. Uncut Magazine called it, “An album for the times,” and Patterson wrote in the liner notes, “Jerry, to me is a cult figure who could, in some alternate reality, have easily been one of the biggest stars in the world. One of the greatest live performers I have ever seen and long one of my favorite songwriters.”
With no way to tour to promote The Beautiful Madness in the midst of a pandemic, Jerry pivoted quickly and was one of the early adaptors of the virtual concert, developing the weekly Jerry Joseph’s Happy Book which streamed on all his social media channels and was watched faithfully week after week by thousands of fans. Live from his home or The Panther Studios in Portland, Joseph performed and told the stories behind his catalog of over 400 songs with occasional guests for 64 weeks and has continued to return to Happy Book on occasion since.
Once the world opened up, Jerry toured the UK and Europe solo, as well as opening for Drive-by Truckers’ sold-out tour in support of the release. In November of 2022, Jerry released Tick, a companion piece to The Beautiful Madness. It featured demos and unused studio tracks from the recording of The Beautiful Madness on side one while side two is made up of live recordings with Jerry Joseph backed by the Truckers at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA.
Jerry is now returning to Europe this December for a few select shows to celebrate the release of his new record, one of the year’s most anticipated releases.
Praise for The Beautiful Madness:
“This should be a contender for Album of the Year…a one-of-a-kind devastating album that needs your immediate attention.”- Glide Magazine
“The Beautiful Madness is both prophetic and apocalyptic, quickly becoming a revelation for all who have ears to hear.”- No Depression
“The album is spectacular.” – Americana Highways
“The Beautiful Madness is a record that demands to be heard. …nothing short of a masterpiece. This is a candidate for Album of the Year. Period.”- Folk Radio UK
“Dead Confederate” Music Picks of the Week – Rolling Stone Country
“as an unflinching look at the world in which we live and an attempt to bring the light of truth to the bear on its darker corners, this is madness to which you really should surrender” – Folking.com
“It’s a record that arrives at just the right time, backed by just the right band…. …Jerry Joseph has created an album that deserves to be added to any year-end best-of conversation.” -Routes & Branches

On August 21st, 2025, the Community Center for the Performing Arts presents: Rizo & Making Movies.
Rizo
The New York Times once referred to Rizo as “SENSATIONAL… A fierce but kindhearted fusion of comedy, burlesque, performance art, and rock ‘n’ roll.” Taking a cue from Piaf, Rizo (né Amelia Zirin-Brown) fully embraces the role of chanteuse. In recordings, she is a mysterious figure, a siren ushering you through tableaus of heartbreak, lust, and the murkiness in between. Live, she is an eyeful.
An international cult favorite, her stage shows bring her powerhouse vocals together with seductive storytelling and wild hilarious audience experiments. Rizo is a provocateur with an electric wit, and has been called a “diva par excellence” by The Guardian. In the studio she has collaborated with Moby, Reggie Watts, and Yo-Yo Ma; whose album Songs of Joy & Peace, which features Rizo, won a Grammy Award.
Rizo has also received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Time Out London theater award, and a London Cabaret Award. Rizo recently starred in the role of Madame Zinzanni in the revival of the much beloved Teatro ZinZanni and is in development for a television project with Michael Carbonaro of the popular series “The Carbonaro Effect.”
“Rizo practically has the word “talent” tattooed on her forehead.” – Wall Street Journal
“Sensational.. Rizo makes connections between performer and audience that are impossible in any other context” – The New York Times
Making Movies
Founded by Enrique Chi—a songwriter, musician, filmmaker, and activist—the Latin Grammy-nominated Making Movies serves as the primary platform for Chi’s creative mission. Rooted in the rich traditions of Panamá, a crisol de razas, the band’s sound is an embodiment of those diverse cultures, offering listeners a unique experience that feels both extraordinary and familiar. Described by NPR as “Perhaps one of the most unique groups around today, Making Movies is sensual, smoky, and seductive.” The band’s accomplishments include collaborations with legendary artists like Rubén Blades, performances at major international festivals, and tours with notable acts such as Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Las Cafeteras, and Flor De Toloache. Chi is also producing AMERI’KANA TV, a National Endowment for the Arts-funded documentary series that explores an alternate history of American music, continuing their mission to inspire and educate. Their next studio album is set to be released in early 2025.
The band is committed to representing their mixed identity of Black and Latino culture and has been a vocal influence in the national health conversation around music as medicine. (For more and other community impact projects, see the group’s nonprofit Art As Mentorship).
“the band synthesizes what’s happening in … Latin music better than anyone else out there today.” — MTV

On Friday, August 22nd the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes Tracy Bonham to the WOW Hall.
Tracy Bonham is a classically trained violinist and pianist turned alternative singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 1996 with her twice GRAMMY™ nominated album, The Burdens of Being Upright (Island Records). This debut album cast Bonham into the global spotlight with MTV fame and major radio airplay with her #1 alternative chart-topping song Mother Mother, an anthem for disgruntled teenagers of all ages. While so many of her songs have been placed in film and tv throughout the decades, you might have most recently heard Mother Mother in Yellow Jackets season 1 episode 2.
Over the past 27 years, Bonham’s albums and live performances have shown what it is to be an ever-evolving artist. While Bonham sings, she moves from guitar to violin, from violin to piano, and back again. When playing live, her songs from the 90s blend and blur with stylistic changes that she has created over time making her entire repertoire make sense as an entire body of work. She plays the old and new material and even though the songs span thirty years they all continue to be equally relevant.
Bonham will be joined by upright bassist Rene Hart (David Amram, James Hunter) and drummer Alvester Garnett (Regina Carter, Abbey Lincoln) and with her new material she connects to something deeper than ever, her true self. Most of the new songs are performed on the piano giving her the chance to lean back to what made her fall in love with music in the first place. Borrowing harmonic structures and beautiful melodies from her favorite classical romantic composers, Bonham stretches herself artistically to combine this rediscovered passion with her unique and quirky songwriting style to create musical alchemy. This purifying process most certainly acts as a vehicle for inner transformation for Bonham.
“like going back to the spark I had as a very young musician, discovering the beauty of Ravel and DeBussy and reclaiming that spark and everything that has happened after that.” Bonham speaks of her current line-up, “Playing with incredible jazz musicians like Rene and Alvester has opened my mind and is now giving me the support I have always needed to spread my wings and fly. I am really enjoying exploring the intersections and overlaps of where classical and jazz meet without excluding my alternative rock sensibilities. These dudes can rock too. The three of us playing together is definitely my happy place.”
“Bonham is a unique and versatile vocalist and writer with much more to offer than just that feisty hit.” ~The Charlotte Observer
