The Grand Old Dame and heart of downtown Eugene on the corner of Broadway and Pearl—The Eugene Hotel—Is turning 100 years old in June. Party plans for a day-long birthday bash worthy of this National Historic Places Registry community gem are well underway. Set for Saturday, June 14, activities throughout the day will include a vintage auto exhibit, musical performances, resident art exhibit, costume displays provided by Shelton, McMurphy, Johnson House and more.
In 1983, the Hotel was converted to apartments for independent and active adults age 58 and older. The transformation from hotel to an active senior living community was carefully done to honor the Hotel’s historic ambiance and architectural features. The goal of the developers, as communicated to the National Historic Registry, was “to recreate the warmth and elegance of the period in which the Hotel enjoyed its greatest success.” Currently, with its walls and community spaces filled with murals and Eugene memorabilia that spans the decades along with a diverse community of senior residents, The Eugene Hotel continues her proud legacy as the heart of our downtown.
