We tell the story with voices, sound effects and music.” L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel concerns a young girl, Dorothy (played by Jane Brinkley), who has been transported to the Land of Oz but who wants desperately to get back home to her Aunt Em (Judi Weinkauf) and Uncle Henry (Dan Pegoda) in Kansas. The only person who can truly help Dorothy succeed is the Wizard of Oz (Don Aday), but first he insists that she do away with the Wicked Witch of the West (Rebecca Nachison). Helping Dorothy are a Tin Man who wants a heart (Bill Hulings), a Cowardly Lion who wants courage (Achilles Massahos) and a Scarecrow who wants a brain (Sandy Silverthorne). At her side is her little dog Toto (Kim Donahey). Advising Dorothy is Glinda the Good Witch (Diana Aday). Besides an entertaining show, patrons can experience “Explore” — a lively, free, illustrated behind-the-show talk by radio-film historian Patrick Lucanio 45 minutes before show time in the Hult Center’s lobby.
