EUGENE, OR. Mayor Piercy of Eugene and Mayor Lundberg of Springfield will host a special kick-off event this Friday at 5:30pm at the Fifth Street Public Market in downtown Eugene. The event will christen the Market’s “Bloom: The Art of Gardens” exhibition as the official starting point for May’s First Friday ArtWalk. The kick-off will be held Friday, May 2 starting at 5:30pm and will feature live music, wine tastings from J. Scott Cellars, champagne for ArtWalk guests at H Boutique and tasty treats from Goody’s.The public will also get a chance to interact with Bloom’s landscape artists, gardeners and farmers to learn some gardening tips. The Market’s stores will be open late until 8:30pm and many will feature special items and refreshments. Bloom will continue at the Market during the entire month of May. “We’re excited to start the gardening season with unique displays that everyone can enjoy,” according to Marissa Ooyevaar, Fifth Street Public Market’s Marketing and Events Coordinator. “This is a great chance for the public to come out and celebrate spring and learn some new gardening tricks.” “Bloom” returns for the third consecutive year and showcases stunning garden displays and outdoor art from the area’s top landscape artists, gardeners and farmers. Visitors this year will also be treated to displays related to raising backyard chickens and bees and unique glass garden art. “This is a family-friendly event the public can enjoy all month long,” says Ooyevaar. “And it’s just in time for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day too.” Admission is free, open to the public and “Bloom” is a perfect family event. The Market is located at 296 East Fifth Avenue in Eugene. Complete details are available at www.BloomEugene.com.
