SmartUps Brainery is a five consecutive weeks of education focused on launching a company. We start with Day One on Tuesday, May 13th and end with Financing & Legal Issues on Tuesday, June 10th. During class time you will work in a small group atmosphere with like-minded people and learn about the fundamental building blocks of starting a successful company. Industry experts are on-site and there is plenty of time for open dialogue and Q&A.
Week One | Tuesday, May 13th: Day One. The first class in a series of five two-hour classes focused on launching a company. Here we cover topics crucial to the success of growth-oriented startups including business models, value propositions, and the process of starting and funding a company.
Week Two | Tuesday, May 20th: Customers & Your Value. An expert in customer research will speak on tools and methods for gathering customer feedback. This class will identify customers and help you define the value proposition your product or service offers each of them. Week Three | Tuesday, May 27th: The Business Landscape. General economic conditions, key trends, and industry forces affect business. Adapatation is success in the business environment. A guest speaker with a focus on big picture trend research will help you identify which components to consider. Week Four | Tuesday, June 3rd: Develop Cost Structure & Revenue Streams. A clear value proposition, defined customer segments, and an understanding of the environment you're operating in will help you address the difficult task of developing cost structures and revenue streams. During this class we'll use the business model to answer cost and revenue questions. A guest speaker will focus on a startup financial model and pitfalls of early-stage accounting. Week Five | Tuesday, June 10th: Financing & Legal Issues. The way your company will be financed depends on your goals as a founder, operating needs, and the level of risk vs. reward that can be offered to investors. This class will feature a startup lawyer speaking on legal issues.
