Description: Nearly 19 million United States residents, 10 percent of those ages 18 through 64, identified as disabled in 2008. According to the United States Census Bureau's American Community Survey, about 264,000 of them were Oregonians. At some time, most employers will be faced with accommodating an employee with a disability.
This session will be presented by Joseph Tam, Program Coordinator with the Bureau of Labor and Industries Technical Assistance for Employers Program. As a former Senior Civil Rights Investigator, Joseph has in-depth knowledge of disability laws.
Topics include the Americans with Disabilities Act, Oregon's disability laws, medical inquiries, the employer's responsibility to provide accommodation to an employee with a disability, the interactive process, and practical tips and resources for employers.
