Event Description:
Join MECCA, Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts on Saturday, May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 588 East 11th Ave. for Raise a Glass to MECCA. Featuring wine tasting and silent art auction, this event is a celebration of and benefit for Eugene's creative reuse organization sponsored by Eugene's Alternative Realtors, Earth Bookkeeping and Payroll and Hummingbird Wholesale. The event, now in its second year, will feature music by Mood Area 52, a variety of art, plus beverages and appetizers produced locally, with proceeds benefiting MECCA as well as participating artists. Admission is free; wine tasting is $12, and beer and wine will also be sold by the glass, as will handcrafted, non-alcoholic sodas. Over 30 works will be available by silent auction and draw on a variety of media, such as printmaking, textiles, metal sculpture, and more. Contributing artists include many local legends in the Eugene art scene, such as Rogene Manas, Mari Livie, Ryan Beard, Marilyn Kent, Tony Brown, Paula Goodbar and Perry Joseph, to name a few. Co-host of KLCC's “Food for Thought” program and head of Marché Provision's wine department, Ryan Stotz, will curate the tasting, which features Brandborg Winery, Brigadoon, Capitello, Marché, William Rose, J. Scott Cellars and Foris Vineyards. Ninkasi will supply beer, while Casablanca, Falling Sky, Marché, Party Cart, Red Agave, and Red Wagon Creamery will provide food. MECCA, Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts, is a non-profit arts, education and reuse organization that has been serving Lane County since 1999. MECCA is dedicated to diverting scrap materials from the waste stream and into the creative endeavors of our community. MECCA provides access to low-cost arts programming in an inclusive environment that enhances the cultural life of Lane County.
