Event Description:
The Fifth Street Public Market in downtown Eugene will host its annual Harvest Festival in celebration of seasonal traditions and fall splendor. The festival highlights include three master pumpkin carvers, appearing Oct. 29 through Oct. 30. Champion pumpkin artists Tim Pate and Tom Ziemann of Portland and Tom Lindsko of Eugene will carve several hefty gourds, each weighing in at 400 to 999 pounds. The festivities and fun will come to a head on Halloween night with a wide variety of free events and activities for families and people of all ages. Along with trick or treating, the attractions include face painting, a children’s costume contest and musical performances. Live music will be provided by finalists and winners of the Eugene Weekly/Northwest Community Credit Union “Next Big Thing” local talent competition: Craig Chee Band, Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Boomchick, Oct. 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tyler Fortier, Oct. 31 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Betty and the Boy, Oct. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Boutiques and restaurants at the Fifth Street Public Market will join in on the festivities. Visitors can stop in for a pumpkin latte or a piece of pumpkin pie and take advantage of seasonal offerings, savings and other holiday specials. The event, sponsored by the Eugene Weekly and KMGE-FM Magic 94.5, will benefit Food for Lane County. Youth who bring in three cans of food or more will receive a free digital download of the Eugene Weekly/Northwest Community Credit Union compilation album “Next Big Thing.” The album features songs by musical acts that competed in the local talent contest. This year’s co-winners, Tyler Fortier and Betty and the Boy, will be headlining the Harvest Festival on Oct. 31. For more information on the Harvest Festival, contact the Fifth Street Public Market at www.5stmarket.com.
