Event Description:
Adventures in Narnia Holiday Ballet Now in its eighth year of staging, the captivating holiday ballet Adventures in Narnia is fast becoming a treasured holiday tradition in the Eugene/Springfield community. A truly local production from its inception, this year’s show offers an even greater variety of local flavor and talent. Blending ballet, modern, and other forms of dance with artistic set designs and detailed costuming, the show features a cast of 70+ dancers. The show is presented annually by the Hosanna Performing Arts Foundation in cooperation with Hosanna Dance Studio. Based on C.S. Lewis’ classic work The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe—a story beloved by generations of readers and now familiar to film aficianados as well—the ballet follows Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy through the wardrobe into a land of fauns and forest nymphs, naiads and dryads, and a fascinating array of fanciful creatures. Founder and director Tiese Morgan, creative director and owner of Hosanna Dance Studio, has raised the bar on this year’s Adventures in Narnia production by tapping into a host of local talent. Eugene native and University of Oregon graduate Angie Renich provides original electronic orchestral music compositions for several pivotal scenes in this year’s show. Professional mime artist Brenda L. DeCock returns for her second year in the role of the White Witch and has added innovative touches to the choreography in numerous Narnia scenes. The 2010 Adventures in Narnia also heads in a new direction with its narration of the story. Joining Monroe High School drama instructor Ken Elliott, who plays the proper professor, and audience favorite Kandy Huff, who weaves humor into the role of the cantankerous housekeeper Mrs. McCready, is classically trained, professional actress, acting coach, and award-winning playwright Janet Steiger-Carr. Starring as the four Pevensie children this year are Kerry Laube as Peter; Baylee Huff as Susan; Kendra Elliott as Edmund; and Anne Walkup as Lucy. Other solo roles are danced by Kyndra Morgan (Mr. Tumnus); Alexis Elliott (Dwarf); Morgan Keeney (Mr. Beaver); Laura Phillips (Mrs. Beaver); Felicity Merritt (Bird); Kendra Laube (Lady of the Forest); Amy Niemeyer (Spirit of Christmas); Chloe Huff (Fenris Ulf); Kelcie Laube (Lieutenant Wolf); Jessica Higgins (Spring Splendor); and Courtney Martin (Lady Winter). Adventures in Narnia will be staged in the Lane Performance Hall on the campus of Lane Community College, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene. Show times are December 11 (1:00 PM & 7:00 PM) and December 12 (4:00 PM). Ticket prices are $12 for adults ($15 day of show) and $10 for children ($12 day of show). Advance tickets may be purchased on-line (www.hosanna-foundation.org). Tickets are also available at the theater prior to each show. For more information regarding tickets, you may call 541-607-5798.
