Event Description:
The BRING Home and Garden Tour: The Art of Sustainable Living takes place on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The self-guided tour is organized and directed by BRING volunteers. Proceeds from the tour support BRING’s outreach and education programs. At 20 homes and gardens in the Eugene-Springfield area, visitors will learn about energy efficiency, solar installation, building with salvaged materials, water conservation, house deconstruction and moving, low-cost/low-impact renovations, cooperative living and more. Those interested in gardening will find examples of composting, plant propagation, fruit and berry production, rainwater catchment, chicken- and beekeeping, and mushroom cultures. Among the homeowners on the tour are green design and building professionals, urban farmers, Master Gardeners, Master Recyclers and creative individuals who have reused all sorts of materials on their properties. The tour includes drawings for prizes donated by Down to Earth, Urban Garden Company and E-Flat Concrete Countertops. There will also be music and informational displays. Major sponsors of the tour are Lane Forest Products, KEZI-TV and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). The tour is part of the world’s largest grassroots solar event, the ASES National Solar Tour. A grant from GEARS, the local bicycle advocacy group, provided funds for a bike map in the tour guide to encourage touring by bike. Tickets are $10 in advance and $14 the day of the tour. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bringrecycling.org, at BRING, or at one of these community outlets: Arriving by Bike, Capella Market, Down to Earth, Friendly Street Market, Gray’s Garden Center, Green Store, Lane Forest Products, Next Step Recycling, Ruthie B’s, SeQuential BioFuels, True Value Hardware and Territorial Seed in Cottage Grove. Tour guides are available at ticket outlets and other Eugene-Springfield and Cottage Grove locations.
