Winning images in 2009's Nikon Small World Exhibit will be displayed at the Science Factory as part of a national tour, starting February 12, 2010. This annual competition honors top photomicrographs from around the world. The winning entry for 2009, chosen from over 2,000 entries, is a magnificent depiction of the essence of floral life, a gorgeous photograph of a thale cress anther magnified 20 times and taken using a confocal microscope by Heiti Paves of Tallinn, Estonia. Other top images from 2009 that will be exhibited at the Science Factory include Gerd Guenther's picture of a spiny sowthistle's stem, Dr. Pedro Barrios-Perez's image of a wrinkled photoresist, James Hayden's colorful, spiraling image of an anglerfish ovary and Bruno Vellutini's photomicrograph of the oral surface of a young seastar. The Nikon Small World Exhibit will be on display at the Science Factory from February 12 - March 14, 2010, along with other interactive exhibits Every Body Eats and Your Healer Within. In addition to the three exhibits, the Science Factory Exploration Dome is open and currently presenting star and full-dome video shows on Friday and Saturday nights, and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information on this exhibit please contact Hilary Kretchmer at 541-682-7886. Information on current exhibits can be found at www.sciencefactory.org/exhibits/ or at www.sciencefactory.org.
