Event Description:
The Annual Garden Party will take place at the beautiful gardens surrounding the home of Leonard and Inge Tarantola in Eugene. A dessert auction will feature desserts from Sweet Life, Euphoria, Marche, Caf Zenon, Clarys Catering and Nibs Dessert and Wine Bar. Dinner will be provided by Carte Blanch Caterers. This year's event also includes two 10 minute plays written, performed and staged for the Garden Party. The first, Neverland, is about a man takes his daughter to Disneyland to re-connect with her only to find Tinkerbelle instead! Neverland stars Lord Leebrick Theatre Company favorites Ellen Chace, Paul Calandrino, and Callie Coles. The second play is an original work by Connie Bennett. Inspired by Australian artist RowenaEvans's artwork, "Pygmalion Losing Galatea," Bennett has written the ten-minute play, Darkroom, a post-modern version of the myth, exploring whether two people can renegotiate the power balance of a relationship and find a future together. Set in New Orleans on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Darkroom features Laura Robinson-Thomas as Svetlana, a Ukrainian mail-order bride, Bruce Lundy as her ex-husband Mel, and Richard Leinaweaver as the radio announcer. Directed by Paul Calandrino, Darkroom is Bennett's fourth produced ten-minute play in the past six months. "I've always been fascinated by the story of Pygmalion and Galatea," says Connie, "after all, I grew up on My Fair Lady." Tickets are $100 each and the money raised from this event will go to directly support Lord Leebrick Theatre Companys season and educational programming. Reservations can be made online at www.lordleebrick.com, or by contacting Lord Leebrick Theatre Company at 541.684.6988.
