Chamber announces the 2016 First Citizen Award recipient The First Citizen Award honors one outstanding individual who has made notable contributions to the Eugene/Springfield community through business and community service efforts. This year the Chamber will honor Ginevra Ralph. Ginevra is the co-founder of the John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts and the institute's director of education and development. In 1991, she and her husband Jim, launched the Oregon Festival of American Music, a weekend summer music festival. They soon decided they needed to operate year round and have a permanent home for performances and music lessons, founding the nonprofit Shedd Institute. Today, The Shedd is busy with musical performances - including those by nationally known musicians - music classes, and special events. Ginevra's extensive civic involvement includes serving as vice chair on the University of Oregon board of trustees, and as a member of Eugene's Cultural Services Advisory Council. She has served on many other civic and nonprofit boards, including Eugene's Saturday Market, Downtown Eugene Inc., UO Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, and the University of Oregon Foundation. The award will be presented at the Eugene Chamber's Annual Celebration of Business presented by Summit Bank on January 26th, 2016 at the Eugene Hilton & Conference Center.
